Jackie Silver MHSc, RD Registered Dietitian
Hi there and welcome to my website! My name is Jackie and I am a Registered Dietitian with a Masters of Health Science (MHSc) in Nutrition Communications, currently living in Toronto, Canada.
My mission is to empower people with disabilities to:
As a person with a physical disability myself, I understand the struggles and barriers to healthy living that folks in this community face. I get the ups and downs of your health journey.
Disabled people deserve to live healthy lifestyles and have equal opportunities for nutrition as able-bodied people. I wasn’t seeing much social media content out there tailored to the needs of disabled folks, so I set out to create it myself, on my Instagram page, @accessiblewellness and to provide services dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities.
As a Registered Dietitian, I have been through extensive training to provide you with quality, evidence-based nutrition information. I take a weight-inclusive approach to counselling and focus on sustainable health behaviour change rather than weight. My goal is to support you in creating healthy habits that you’ll easily continue long after we’re done working together.
I have experience working with diverse populations and in different dietetic practice areas, such as hospitals (in mental health units, general medicine, neuro/stroke ward, and short stay surgery), community nutrition (general practice and diabetes), and Special Olympics Ontario (where I ran workshops and a cooking class for athletes with intellectual disabilities). I know how to translate confusing nutrition science into simple terms with key takeaway messages.
In my spare time, I love to cook, bake, exercise, meditate, journal, travel, hang out with family and friends, spend time outdoors, and ride my handcycle.
