These hunger and fullness scales for adults and kids are great mindful eating tools to use to get yourself and/or your children to tune into your internal hunger and fullness cues.
The hunger and fullness scales for adults are separated into individual scales – one is dedicated solely to hunger and one is dedicated to fullness as they are two different physical sensations.
These scales are modified from MB-EAT (mindfulness-based eating awareness training) and are different from the intuitive eating hunger/fullness scale which illustrates hunger and fullness on one scale.
The hunger and fullness scales for kids come with a total of 3 charts, each with different illustrations and texts to appeal to a wide variety of children’s interests. The illustrations include:
- Volcanos (from no lava to eruption indicating hunger and fullness)
- Construction workers (from overly hungry to overly full)
- Dolls (from overly hungry to overly full)
The scales and illustrations are simple and intuitive, making them easy for both adults and young children to understand. They are also appropriate for folks with low literacy or who cannot read, such as people with autism or intellectual/developmental disabilities.
This is an excellent resource for the general adult and pediatric population for learning intuitive eating or mindful eating skills.
